*New
Process for Burn Permits*
Burn Permits will no
longer be issued at City Hall. State regulations require that areas where
burning will occur must be inspected before a Burn Permit can be issued.
That means that in order to get a Burn Permit you must call the Fire Hall
at 374-8510 and leave a message asking for a Burn Permit and giving a time
when you will be at the burn location to have the inspection and pay the
$10.00 fee. The Fire Chief will call you back within 24 hours to confirm
the appointment. After the inspection and payment of the fee to the Fire
Chief, the Burn Permit will be issued. Burn Permits will still be good
for the entire calendar year, subject to restrictions as necessary. We
appreciate your patience while we shift to this new procedure.
Burn
permits can be obtained at City Hall. All guidelines and restrictions must
be observed when burning. Before starting any fire, even if you have a valid
permit, you must check to see if burning is allowed that day and then call
the Fire Hall at 374-8510 to leave a voice mail giving the location and
details of your burn. This is necessary in case someone reports your burn.
Your message will let the Fire Department personnel know that it is a
permitted burn, and not a fire that they must respond to with full equipment
and personnel.
